Man Sentenced to 30 Months for Possession of Child Pornography
In a shocking turn of events, Timothy (‘Mitch’) Duell, a 48-year-old resident of Schenectady County, has been sentenced to serve 30 months in prison for possessing child pornography. This disturbing crime has left the community in shock and outrage.
According to court records, Duell pleaded guilty to possessing sexually explicit images of a child under the age of 12 and participating in online chats where he discussed his interest in engaging in sex acts with that child. This heinous behavior has earned him a spot on the sex offender registry and a hefty fine.
In addition to the 30-month prison sentence, Duell has been ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim and to forfeit the electronic device he used to commit the crime. This is a clear message from the justice system that such crimes will not be tolerated.
The investigation into Duell’s activities was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the New York State Police, with Assistant United States Attorney Michael D. Gadarian prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood. This initiative, launched by the federal government in 2006, aims to protect children from online exploitation and ensure that those who commit such crimes are brought to justice.
Duell’s sentence is a testament to the determination of law enforcement agencies to protect our children from predators like him. As a community, we must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could lead to the exploitation of our children.
The full extent of Duell’s involvement in online child exploitation is still unclear, but one thing is certain – he will face the consequences of his actions. This sentence serves as a warning to others who would seek to exploit children online: you will be caught and you will be punished.
