Treon Eastman, a 25-year-old man from Todd County, South Dakota, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. Between April 2023 and July 2023, Eastman engaged in a sexual act with a female victim who was between 12-16 years old. The incident occurred within the reservation, prompting a federal investigation and prosecution. Eastman pleaded guilty on January 8, 2026, and was sentenced on March 30, 2026.
The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case. As part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, the U.S. Attorney’s Office worked to bring Eastman to justice.
Eastman’s sentence includes 10 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
The Major Crimes Act, a federal statute, mandates that certain violent crimes alleged to have occurred in Indian Country be prosecuted in Federal court as opposed to State court. This case highlights the importance of cooperation between federal, state, and local agencies in combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
