Bank Heist Suspect Named
A Toledo man is behind bars after being indicted for robbing two banks in a span of just two days, according to sources close to the investigation.
Robert Andrew Harris, 41, is accused of robbing the Citizens Bank on South Detroit Street in Toledo on July 9 and the Fifth Third Bank on Woodville Road in Northwood on July 11.
The heists, which took place just two days apart, have left authorities scrambling to piece together the evidence and identify the suspect.
As it turns out, Harris has been identified as the prime suspect in both incidents, and has now been indicted on two counts of bank robbery.
“If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation,” said authorities.
The investigating agency in this case is the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Simko handling the case.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The burden of proof is always on the government to prove a defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Harris is currently being held without bond, awaiting his next court appearance. The FBI has not released any information on potential motive or next steps in the investigation, but sources indicate that the case is ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming.
