Tracey Smith, 54, Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement in Pittsburgh
A resident of Pittsburgh, PA, has pleaded guilty to violating federal fraud laws by embezzling funds from two area employers, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.
Tracey Smith, 54, of the City’s Lincoln Park area, pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon.
In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that between 2014 and 2018 Smith embezzled funds from two separate employers, Pro Towels and Moderne Glass, when she held executive positions with the companies.
According to the investigation, Smith’s actions resulted in a significant financial loss for the companies, and she now faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Melucci is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Smith.
Judge Bissoon scheduled sentencing for February 16, 2023. Pending sentencing, the court continued Smith’s bond.
