Edner Escarne, Tax Evasion, California 2020

⏱ 2 min read

A six-year tax scam has finally unraveled for former U.S. Treasury manager Edner Escarne, 52. He was arrested at his Washington D.C. residence and charged with four counts of tax evasion and five counts of failing to file a tax return.

Escarne earned over $1 million in government salary between 2019 and 2023, but managed to evade taxes for years. He submitted false tax forms claiming he was exempt from federal income tax withholding, causing the OCC to withhold little to no taxes from his wages.

The indictment alleges Escarne failed to timely file his taxes for five consecutive years. At his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty.

The case is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Treasury Office of the Inspector General.
