Tucson Man Sentenced to 41 Months in Prison for Sexually Abusing a Minor

A Tucson man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for sexually abusing a minor, authorities announced last week. Michael Alvarez Martinez, 48, a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins.

Martinez had previously pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact of a minor. The minor victim is also a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The 41-month sentence is the result of an investigation by the Pascua Yaqui Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The prosecution was handled by Charisse Arce and Rui Wang, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Tucson. Martinez will be placed on lifetime federal supervision and be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The case against Martinez was a result of a joint effort between law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. The investigation was conducted by both the Pascua Yaqui Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the prosecution handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Charisse Arce and Rui Wang.
