A brazen smuggling operation that used hidden tunnels and storm drains to sneak people into the US has landed a Mexican national 42 months in the joint. Ricardo Guadalupe Dominguez, 54, of Ciudad Juarez, was caught while trying to cross back into the States via the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.
According to feds, Dominguez was part of an alien smuggling organization that used a subterranean passage and storm drain tunnels to sneak people into the US. He allegedly provided vehicles and tools to tamper with the storm drains, making it easier for the smugglers to move their human cargo undetected.
The operation was busted after feds discovered a man-made cross-border tunnel on January 10, 2025. Dominguez’ co-defendant, Oscar Ivan Carrillo, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for his role in the smuggling operation.
Feds say Carrillo and others would guide the aliens through the tunnels and into the US, where a modified box truck would pick them up at the tunnel exit. The aliens would then climb up into the truck without being detected.
