Twin Falls Man Admits to Possessing Firearms
A 42-year-old Twin Falls man, Ronnie M. Preal, has pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing firearms, according to a U.S. Attorney’s announcement.
Preal’s guilty plea stems from a search warrant served at his residence on January 3, 2014, where officers found a 10-gauge shotgun and a 9 millimeter pistol. The discovery led to Preal admitting he possessed the firearms.
However, Preal is prohibited from owning firearms due to a 1996 manslaughter conviction in California.
The charge of unlawfully possessing firearms carries a maximum punishment of up to ten years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. The government is seeking to forfeit the seized firearms.
The case was investigated by the Twin Falls Police, Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Preal will be prosecuted by the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney hired by the Treasure Valley Partnership and the State of Idaho.
According to the Treasure Valley Partnership, their mission is to address regional coordination, cooperation, and collaboration on creating coherent regional growth in southwest Idaho.
Preal’s sentencing is scheduled for October 20, 2014, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.
