Dale Wayne Jensen, 48, of Twin Falls, Idaho, is headed to federal prison for 16 months after being caught with five firearms and nearly eight pounds of marijuana — including potent THC concentrate — at his home. The bust came during a March 14, 2017, search warrant execution by Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Deputies, uncovering a stash that sealed Jensen’s fate behind bars.
Jensen, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty on November 28, 2017, to one count of unlawful possession of firearms by a prohibited person. His criminal history — specifically a 2002 felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance in Twin Falls — stripped him of any legal right to own guns. Yet, authorities found multiple firearms stashed inside his residence, all of which he admitted were his.
But the guns weren’t the only problem. Detectives also seized approximately eight pounds of marijuana and processed THC concentrate — a waxy, high-potency substance extracted from cannabis. Jensen admitted he was manufacturing the concentrate himself, a dangerous process that often involves volatile solvents and carries serious legal weight under federal law.
The federal indictment came down on June 15, 2017, after a grand jury reviewed the evidence. U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis pushed for accountability, stressing that felons with firearms pose a clear threat to public safety. “This wasn’t a minor infraction,” said a DOJ spokesperson. “Jensen had weapons and was actively producing concentrated drugs. That’s a federal line-crosser.”
Chief U.S. District Court Judge B. Lynn Winmill handed down the 16-month sentence in Boise, adding three years of supervised release post-prison. During that time, Jensen will be monitored by federal probation officers, barred from possessing weapons, and required to comply with strict court conditions.
The case was jointly investigated by the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), a routine partnership in federal gun crime prosecutions. Authorities say they’ll continue targeting illegal firearms and drug operations, especially when the two intersect in high-risk home labs like the one Jensen ran.
