TYLER, Texas – A gritty tale of crime and greed unfolds as a Shelby County man faces federal charges for purchasing cold pills with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
40-year-old Dean Allen Tucker from Joaquin, Texas, entered a guilty plea in the Eastern District of Texas before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love. According to court documents, Tucker’s crime was more than just purchasing a few cold pills; he admitted to buying pseudoephedrine-containing cold pills on 25 separate occasions between November 2008 and April 2009, accumulating nearly 58.44 grams of the drug.
The scheme began on November 13, 2008, when Tucker made his first purchase from the Ken Turner Pharmacy in Carthage, Texas. He continued to buy cold pills with pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient for methamphetamine production, for his illegal endeavor.
On August 20, 2012, Christine Stephens Carroll was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison after being charged along with Tucker in a federal indictment on drug trafficking crimes. Today’s plea by Tucker brings this long-running case to a new chapter.
U.S. Attorney John M. Bales announced the guilty plea, noting that Tucker faces up to 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has yet to be scheduled.
This case is a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies like the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated and prosecuted this serious crime with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble at the helm.
