Tylar Redditt, Heroin & Gun Conspiracy, Bogalusa LA, 2023

BOGALUSA, LA – A 21-year-old Bogalusa man is facing serious federal charges after allegedly participating in a heroin distribution ring and conspiring to use firearms in the commission of those crimes. Tylar Redditt was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 2, 2023, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The indictment alleges Redditt conspired to distribute a quantity of heroin, violating Title 21 of the United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(C), and 846. Beyond the drugs, Redditt is also accused of conspiring to use and possess firearms to further his drug trafficking activities – a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(o). The feds aren’t messing around; this isn’t just about the heroin.

If convicted on the drug charge, Redditt could face up to twenty years in federal prison, a potential $1,000,000.00 fine, and a minimum of three years of supervised release. The firearms charge carries a similar maximum sentence of twenty years imprisonment, alongside a fine of up to $250,000.00 and up to three years supervised release. And don’t forget the $100 mandatory special assessment fee per count – the government always gets its cut.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans was quick to point out that the indictment is merely an accusation. “The indictment is merely a charging document,” Evans stated, “and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.” That’s standard legal boilerplate, but the wheels are already in motion.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program, recently bolstered by the Department of Justice, focuses on building trust with communities, supporting local organizations, and strategic enforcement. Translation: more pressure on local cops and federal agencies to bring down street-level dealers and their networks.

The investigation was a joint effort between the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Bogalusa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr., of the Narcotics Unit, is handling the prosecution. Expect a hard fight – and a potentially lengthy prison sentence – if Redditt is found guilty.
