Grimy Times Exclusive: Former Postal Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing U.S. Mail
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A shocking case of corruption has rocked the U.S. Postal Service as 30-year-old Dazmon Dyer, a former employee, pleaded guilty to delaying and stealing the contents of U.S. mail.
Dyer, a resident of New Orleans, entered his guilty plea on October 12, 2023, to a two-count indictment charging him with delay of U.S. mail and theft of U.S. mail matter by a postal employee, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1703 and 1709.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to five years imprisonment, up to a $250,000.00 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100.00 special assessment fee as to both counts.
According to court records, Dyer stole U.S. currency and gift cards from First-Class mail that had come into his possession and intended to be delivered by him as a U.S. Postal Service employee.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Troy L. Bell of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
United States District Judge Eldon E. Fallon will sentence Dyer on January 18, 2024. This is a disturbing case of corruption within the U.S. Postal Service, and we will continue to follow it closely.
The guilty plea is a significant step towards justice for the victims of Dyer’s crimes. We urge the court to impose the maximum sentence possible to deter others from committing similar crimes.
