Ty’nell D. Jimmerson, Illicit Machine Gun Possession, Nebraska 2025

Omaha Man Sentenced for Illicit Machine Gun Possession

A 20-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 32 months in federal prison for his role in the illicit possession of a machine gun conversion device.

According to federal prosecutors, Ty’nell D. Jimmerson was arrested on July 28, 2024, after a high-speed chase through Omaha streets. As officers closed in, Jimmerson discarded a loaded Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun, which contained a high-capacity magazine and was equipped with a ‘Glock switch’ machine gun conversion device.

The device, also known as a ‘machine gun conversion device’ (MCD), converts the weapon to a fully automatic machine gun. The firearm had previously been reported stolen during a vehicle break-in.

After concealing the firearm, Jimmerson got into the back seat of a waiting Nissan. Both vehicles left the park, with officers from the Omaha Police Department’s helicopter unit, Able-1, following the Nissan to 90th Street and Blair High Road.

There, OPD conducted a traffic stop and arrested Jimmerson. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in the community.

Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. Following his release from prison, Jimmerson will begin a 3-year term of supervised release.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Omaha Police Department investigated the case. This marks a significant blow to those involved in the illicit possession of machine guns in the Omaha area.
