DC Mother Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Death of 11-Month-Old Daughter
In a shocking turn of events, 28-year-old Tyra Anderson, a resident of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her 11-month-old daughter, Makenzie Anderson. The incident occurred in February 2020, and the case has been a highly publicized and disturbing one.
The investigation revealed that Anderson, who was the primary caregiver for her daughter, had caused blunt force trauma to the child’s head, leading to her death. The autopsy report confirmed that the child suffered from multiple contusions to the face and head, skull fractures, and other injuries.
Anderson initially told law enforcement that the child had fallen from a bed on February 3, 2020, but further investigation revealed that the injuries were not consistent with a simple fall. The cosmetics found in the hotel room where Anderson and her daughter were staying also raised suspicions.
Anderson was arrested on December 4, 2020, after a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia G. Wright.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Anderson will serve a 10-year prison term, with all but three years suspended. She will also be placed on five years of supervised release and will be required to have no future unsupervised contact with children and engage in mental health treatment.
