PHILADELPHIA – A federal jury has convicted Tyreek Byrd, 37, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a violent home invasion robbery that terrorized an entire family. United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the conviction today.
Byrd, along with three co-conspirators, targeted business owners and individuals believed to have cash at their homes from November 2019 through January 2020. They used GPS tracking devices to locate their victims and committed the crimes with zip ties, duct tape, and firearms.
The harrowing night of December 31, 2019, saw Byrd and two accomplices attack a nail salon owner in Delaware County. They forced the victim into his residence, where they threatened and beat his family, stealing thousands in cash and jewelry.
Byrd is scheduled for sentencing on December 18, facing at least five years in prison. His co-conspirator Willie Singletary was sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment earlier this year, while Shaquan Brown awaits a November 20 sentencing after his conviction.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation. Investigated by ATF and Haverford Police, the prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony Carissimi and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Doherty.
Byrd’s conviction underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect communities from such heinous acts.
