Timber Lake Woman Charged in Connection with Burglary at Local Bar

A break-in at the Chatter Box Corner Café and Bar in Timber Lake, South Dakota, has led to the conviction of a local woman for Misprision of a Felony. Stephanie Vandervier, age 28, was aware that the burglary had taken place and failed to report it to the authorities.

The crime, which occurred in the early hours of January 6, 2013, resulted in a thorough investigation by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. This tireless work led to the indictment of Vandervier by a federal grand jury on February 13, 2013.

On August 19, 2013, Vandervier pled guilty to a Superseding Information charging her with Misprision of a Felony. This conviction marked a significant milestone in the case and brought the community closer to justice.

On November 4, 2013, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down Vandervier’s sentence. She was ordered to serve 18 months of probation, pay $972.61 in restitution, and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson led the prosecution in this case, ensuring that the perpetrator of the crime was held accountable for their actions.

The residents of Timber Lake can rest a little easier knowing that the responsible party has been brought to justice. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting crimes to the authorities and the consequences of failing to do so.
