An Omaha man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Victor Henderson, 24, was sentenced on June 21, 2024, in federal court in Omaha for the crime, which is a felony offense.
Henderson was found to be in possession of four live rounds of ammunition, specifically ‘Aguila’ 9mm rounds, when he was stopped by police on July 30, 2023. The ammunition was discovered during a probable cause search of Henderson’s vehicle after the driver, Christopher Grutel, was pulled over for a traffic violation.
Henderson’s vehicle was searched after officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. During the search, officers also found marijuana shake on the front passenger floorboard and an open container of alcohol on the driver’s seat.
Henderson has a previous conviction for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, which he was convicted of in 2021 in Douglas County District Court.
Grutel, the driver of the vehicle, also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition and is set to be sentenced on September 6, 2024.
The case was investigated by the Omaha Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Henderson was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with no parole, and will begin a 3-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
