Medford, Oregon – In a shocking turn of events, Vincent Leon Johnson, 26, was sentenced to 77 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. This brazen crime took place on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the U.S. District Court, Medford, Oregon.
According to eyewitnesses, Medford police were dispatched to a report of drug dealing in the Taco Bell parking lot on February 16, 2014. Upon arrival, officers found a suspect vehicle occupied by four people, three of whom had outstanding arrest warrants. Johnson, the front passenger, was frisked and found to possess $3,401 cash, digital scales, and a small amount of marijuana.
During the search of the vehicle, officers seized a backpack found at Johnson’s feet and discovered a loaded Glock .40-caliber pistol, 50 grams of heroin, $260 cash, and photographs of Johnson. Johnson admitted to intending to deliver the heroin to another person and carrying the loaded firearm. This is not Johnson’s first run-in with the law, as he has prior felony convictions for assault with firearm on a person and two separate convictions for felon in possession of a firearm.
Johnson’s troubles don’t end there. He was recently convicted in the Jackson County Circuit Court of racketeering and two counts of conspiracy to distribute heroin for arranging drug deals while incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. He was sentenced to 87 months in state prison. As part of his plea agreement, his federal sentence will run concurrent with his state prison sentence.
The investigation was jointly conducted by the Medford Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas W. Fong handled the prosecution.
In light of these findings, it’s clear that Johnson’s actions pose a significant threat to public safety. As he begins serving his 77-month sentence, the people of Medford can rest a little easier knowing that this individual is off the streets.
