Wakpala Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 37 Months

A 27-year-old Wakpala man has been sentenced to 37 months of imprisonment for his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring, according to the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota. Dustin Swimmer was sentenced on May 13, 2013, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann.

Swimmer was convicted of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance after being indicted by a federal grand jury on February 14, 2012. He pleaded guilty to a Superseding Information on January 3, 2013. The charge stems from an incident in 2011 in which Swimmer knowingly and intentionally possessed methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, and assisted in its distribution.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.

As part of his sentence, Swimmer was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
