Defendant Pleads Guilty in Deadly Washington DC Shooting
A 36-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and assault in connection with a deadly shooting in Washington DC in 2021.
Walter Jenkins, a Washington DC resident, entered a guilty plea on August 21, 2025, to one count of second-degree murder while armed and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon. The plea is contingent upon the Court’s approval.
According to a proffer of facts submitted at the plea hearing, at approximately 4:47 p.m., on November 14, 2021, Metropolitan Police Department Seventh District officers responded to the 2000 Block of Alabama Avenue SE, for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon conducting a canvass of the area, officers located two victims near a vehicle on Bruce Place.
The victims, identified as David Williams and another man, were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Williams was pronounced dead at George Washington University Hospital, while the second victim was transported to Med-Star and admitted in stable condition.
Jenkins was arrested on February 4, 2022, and has been in custody since. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the guilty plea, stating that Jenkins faces a sentence range of between 18 and 33 ½ years under the District of Columbia Voluntary Sentencing Guidelines.
Superior Court Judge Rainey Brandt accepted the factual basis for the plea and scheduled sentencing for November 18, 2025. The case was investigated by officers, detectives, and other personnel of the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zachary Horton and Miles Janssen are prosecuting the case.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined in the announcement, praising the dedication and hard work of the officers and detectives involved in the investigation.
