Wavy Boyz Gang Member Sentenced for Heroin Conspiracy

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in federal prison for his role in a heroin conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.

Robert Fields, Jr., also known as Squid, 24, of Pittsburgh, was sentenced by United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer after being convicted of violating federal narcotics laws.

According to information presented to the court, Fields conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 100 grams of heroin from November 2015 to January 2016.

The court was informed that Fields was a member of the Wavy Boyz gang, which operates out of the Hill District Section of the City of Pittsburgh.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy L. Johnston prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, which was investigated by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).

The OCDETF task force, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is comprised of members from the FBI Greater Pittsburgh Safe Street Task Force, including the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Wilkinsburg Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, and the Allegheny County Police Department.

Substantial assistance was provided by FBI San Juan, Puerto Rico (St. Thomas Resident Agency, U.S. Virgin Islands) and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Numerous other FBI field offices, including Detroit, Cleveland, New York, and Atlanta, in addition to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, also assisted with the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Brady commended the OCDETF for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Fields.

The case is a prime example of the critical federal funding and coordination provided by the OCDETF program, which allows federal and state agencies to work together to successfully identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.

The sentence was imposed as part of an investigation that targeted the Wavy Boyz gang, which has been linked to various crimes in the Pittsburgh area.
