Failure to Update Sex Offender Registration Lands Man in Hot Water

A Roanoke, Virginia man has pleaded guilty to failing to update his registration status as a convicted sex offender in West Virginia. Milton Stuart Kendall Jr., 35, appeared in federal court in Martinsburg, where he pleaded guilty to one count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Kendall’s troubles began when he was convicted of Sexual Battery in the Circuit Court of the City of Staunton, Virginia. As a result, he was required to register as a sex offender. However, when he moved from West Virginia to Virginia in late 2014 or early 2015, he failed to update his registration status.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anna Krasinski and Paul Camilletti prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the United States Marshals Service conducting the investigation. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case.

Kendall now faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. His sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and his prior criminal history.

The plea deal marks a significant development in a case that highlights the importance of registering as a sex offender. As a convicted sex offender, Kendall is required by law to keep his registration status up to date, and his failure to do so has landed him in serious trouble.

Kendall’s guilty plea is a reminder that the law takes sex crimes very seriously, and that those convicted of such crimes must adhere to the strict requirements placed upon them. The case is a stark reminder of the consequences of failing to comply with the law.
