ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – A severe blow was delivered to the streets of Hardy County today as Wesley Neal Carter, 35, from Moorefield, West Virginia, was sentenced to a staggering 240 months in federal prison. This sentence follows Carter’s conviction for conspiring with associates to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine.
Carter had been fueling the local drug trade by supplying large quantities of the deadly substance. The authorities moved swiftly, executing a search warrant at Carter’s home and nearby property. What they uncovered was nearly three pounds of methamphetamine, a stark reminder of the danger this criminal has posed to the community.
This is not Carter’s first brush with the law; he comes with a rap sheet that includes prior assault and drug convictions. The sentence handed down today serves as a stern warning to others who may consider profiting from the sale of such dangerous drugs.
Following his prison term, Carter will be under supervised release for an additional five years, ensuring he remains under close watch.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner led the prosecution against Carter on behalf of the government, ensuring that justice was served. The investigation was a collaborative effort, with the Potomac Highlands Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Virginia RUSH Task Force playing pivotal roles in bringing this trafficker to his knees.
The case was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh, who has seen many such cases but was no doubt disturbed by the scope of this particular crime.
