Wheeling Man Sentenced for Cocaine Sales
A 28-year-old Wheeling man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling cocaine base near a protected location.
Sylvester Eugene Walker, of Wheeling, West Virginia, was sentenced to 120 months of incarceration for distribution of cocaine base within 1000 feet of a protected location and distribution of cocaine base, announced Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.
The charges stem from two incidents in January 2020. On January 16, Walker sold cocaine base near Wheeling Central Catholic High School, and on January 20, he sold cocaine base in Ohio County.
Walker pleaded guilty to the charges in May 2021. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force investigating.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the sentencing hearing.
The sentence is a result of Walker’s admission to selling cocaine base near a protected location, a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for our communities.
