Bangor Man Pleads Guilty to Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

A 52-year-old man from Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and formerly of Dougherty County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender. William Curtis Oliver, 52, was arrested on September 15, 2016.

Oliver was convicted of child molestation in Georgia in November 2012. As a result, he was required to register as a sex offender and keep his registration current. However, when he moved to Maine in December 2015, he failed to notify the sex offender registry in Georgia that he had left and did not register in Maine.

The investigation into Oliver’s failure to register was conducted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department. He now faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Oliver will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office. Assistant United States Attorney F. Todd Lowell is handling the case.
