ALBANY, NEW YORK – William Godlewski, 45, of Altamont, has been thrust into the headlines after he entered a guilty plea in United States District Court for possession of child pornography. The announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Buffalo Field Office.
Godlewski, already a state-convicted sex offender, confessed to possessing around 100 images of child sexual abuse material on his cell phone. He also admitted to attempting to upload approximately 244 videos to a cloud-based storage account linked to his phone.
Scheduled for October 23, 2025, Godlewski’s sentencing looms with severe penalties. The mandatory minimum sentence stands at 10 years in prison, with a maximum of 20 years. He faces fines up to $250,000, a supervised release term of at least five years, and will be compelled to register as a sex offender for life.
U.S. Attorney Sarcone emphasized the relentless pursuit of sexual predators like Godlewski, asserting, “My office has ZERO tolerance for sexual predators.” He referenced his mother’s adage that “a leopard never changes its spots,” underscoring the belief that such predators cannot be cured.
HSI Special Agent in Charge Keegan highlighted the ongoing efforts to protect children, noting, “We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard the most vulnerable members of society.” The investigation was a collaborative effort with the New York Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Guilderland (N.Y.) Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney A.J. Vickey is handling the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit here.
