James William Smith, Sex Trafficking, Delaware 2023

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Christopher Todd Evans, a 41-year-old man from Wilmington, has been sentenced to more than 27 years in prison (327 months) for sex trafficking and operating a prostitution enterprise. The sentence comes after Evans pled guilty to the charges on February 25, 2025.

Evans’ business, which operated under the names Cape Fear Entertainers and later Cape Fear Escorts, was a facade for human trafficking and prostitution. From 2010 to 2022, Evans prostituted over 200 adult and minor females through his escort website and office space in downtown Wilmington. He coerced women using manipulation, control, threats, and sometimes violence.

Victims were made to sign false “contracts” promising not to engage in sex trafficking and prostitution, while Evans exploited them for his own gain. His actions left many struggling with addiction, trauma, and pain, as he intimidated his victims and convinced them that no one would help them.

‘Evans made money by exploiting these girls and women, exposing them to all sorts of depravity and bodily harm,’ said U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle. ‘Monsters who prey upon others have no place in the Eastern District. This sentence is the result of great work from law enforcement and federal prosecutors.’

The case was investigated by the FBI and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin C. Blondel and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Stephany handling the prosecution.
