Peguero has a lengthy and disturbing criminal history, dating back to 1997, when he was convicted of drug trafficking under the alias associated with a U.S. citizen victim.

He was removed from the United States in 2005, but allegedly illegally reentered the country on multiple occasions, using numerous aliases, including those belonging to U.S. citizen victims.

In 2021, Peguero was arrested and charged with his true name in federal court for aggravated identity theft and wire fraud, for which he was convicted on January 11, 2023, and sentenced to more than two years in federal prison.

Despite being removed from the United States a third time in 2023, Peguero allegedly illegally reentered the country once again and was encountered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on February 5, 2026, while using a false identity document.

Peguero is currently in ICE custody, awaiting trial for the indictment of unlawful reentry by an alien with a prior aggravated felony conviction.

The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Julissa Walsh of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and David T. Wesling, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement today.

The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law.
