Woman Stabs Husband, Gets 18 Months
A Little Eagle woman who chased her husband around their home and stabbed him in the abdomen was sentenced to 18 months in custody, federal authorities announced.
Verinda Red Legs, 30, was sentenced on August 4, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann, who also ordered her to serve two years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Prosecutors said Red Legs got into an argument with her husband on October 18, 2013, after a night of drinking. She then chased him around the house, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuted the case.
Red Legs was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
The conviction stems from an incident in which Red Legs’ night of drinking escalated into violence, leaving her husband severely injured.
Red Legs, who was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 14, 2013, pleaded guilty to the charge on May 12, 2014.
