Charnele Dawn Jenkins, 31, of Riverton, Wyoming, has been handed a brutal 12 months and one day in federal prison for distributing deadly fentanyl. The grim sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on Aug. 15 in Cheyenne. According to court documents, Jenkins sold the illicit substance to an undercover Rocky Mountain Safe Trails Task Force Agent on Aug. 27, 2024.
Jenkins faced a tumultuous legal journey, being indicted on Jan. 15 and pleading guilty on May 27. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy W. Gist prosecuted the case with vigor. Case No. 25-CR-00019.
In a separate yet related development, Jeramie Russel Makinen, 40, of Evanston, Wyoming, has been sentenced to a staggering 51 months and 29 days in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, aiding and abetting in the distribution of fentanyl, and actual distribution. Makinen’s sentence was also imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on Aug. 14 in Casper.
Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) agents in Rock Springs were investigating drug trafficking when they identified Makinen as a person of interest. A traffic stop by the Sweetwater Sheriff’s Office (SSO) led to his arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney Z. Seth Griswold prosecuted the crime, with DCI, SSO, and DEA involved in the investigation.
