Yohan Murillo-Medina Sentenced to 32 Months for Fentanyl Trafficking in California
A 22-year-old San Francisco man has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking ring in the city’s Tenderloin District.
Yohan Murillo-Medina, of San Francisco, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to distribute them, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.
On January 30, 2023, Murillo-Medina was stopped by law enforcement officers near the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Hyde Street. He ran when he noticed the officers approaching and discarded a backpack and jacket containing the controlled substances.
The backpack and jacket were recovered by law enforcement, who found approximately 1,749.9 grams of a substance containing fentanyl, 20.7 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, 26.7 grams of alprazolam pills, and 132.1 grams of marijuana.
Murillo-Medina was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 11, 2023, and pleaded guilty to both counts of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine.
In addition to the 32-month prison sentence, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley also ordered Murillo-Medina to serve three years of supervised release. He has been detained since being taken into federal custody and will begin serving his prison term immediately.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the San Francisco Police Department, with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Buszin and Laurence Macaraeg.
