CONCORD – A Manchester man has been brought to justice for his role in a fentanyl trafficking ring in New Hampshire. Zachary Janas, 40, pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl and unlawfully possessing with the intent to distribute fentanyl in federal court.
Janas was charged on September 27, 2021, after a lengthy investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Major Offender Task Force. The investigation began in September 2021, when FBI agents arranged to purchase approximately one-half kilogram of fentanyl from Janas at his Manchester residence.
On September 24, 2021, federal law enforcement seized an additional one-half kilogram of fentanyl packaged for distribution, approximately $7,000 cash, several firearms, and ammunition from Janas’s residence.
The charging statute provides a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a fine of $1,000,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer C. Davis is prosecuting the case, and U.S. District Court Judge Joseph LaPlante has scheduled sentencing for July 27, 2023.
The investigation and subsequent arrest of Janas are a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking ring operating in New Hampshire. The FBI’s Major Offender Task Force is committed to disrupting and dismantling these types of operations, and bringing to justice those responsible for the sale and distribution of deadly fentanyl.
Janas’s guilty plea is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement to combat the opioid epidemic and keep our communities safe.
