Over 300 individuals were charged with immigration-related crimes in Phoenix, Arizona between July 18 and July 24, 2026. The charges included illegal re-entry, illegal entry, and smuggling. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona filed 114 cases against aliens who illegally re-entered the United States and 175 cases against aliens who entered the country illegally. Twenty-one individuals were also charged with smuggling illegal aliens into and within the District of Arizona.
The cases were supported by various federal law enforcement partners, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
One notable case involved Rubicel Nunez-Sanchez, who was charged with Transportation of an Illegal Alien for Profit. On July 19, Border Patrol Agents observed Nunez-Sanchez driving a Ford F-150 near the Mexico border and attempted to conduct an immigration inspection. However, Nunez-Sanchez failed to yield and eventually stopped after his vehicle was incapacitated by a vehicle immobilization device. Five subjects got out of the vehicle and ran away, and were later determined to be citizens and nationals of Mexico and Colombia, unlawfully present in the United States.
The enforcement operations and subsequent charges demonstrate the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to deter unlawful immigration and smuggling in the District of Arizona.
