WHITE RIVER, SOUTH DAKOTA – A local man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a disturbing crime that left his victim shaken.
Francisco White Buffalo, 35, was sentenced to 60 months in custody by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on June 3, 2013. The punishment also includes 5 years of supervised release and a $100 fine to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
According to court documents, White Buffalo’s conviction stems from an incident that took place on August 15, 2012. The victim suffered at the hands of the defendant, who was later indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2013. White Buffalo pled guilty to the charge of Abusive Sexual Contact on March 18, 2013.
The investigation into White Buffalo’s crimes was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers handled the case, working tirelessly to bring the defendant to justice.
White Buffalo was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal following his sentencing. The Federal Crime Victims Fund will receive $100 as a result of the fine. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, has likely suffered long-lasting effects from the traumatic event.
