Alicia Johnson Jenkins, Conspiracy to Defraud the United States With Respect to Claims, North Carolina 2016

Raleigh – A gritty federal crime update from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina reveals that Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever III has delivered justice to Alicia Johnson Jenkins, 35, and KIawanna Monika Langley, 33, sentencing them for their brazen involvement in a $1.5 million tax refund fraud scheme.

Jenkins was handed a 60-month imprisonment sentence followed by 3 years of supervised release and ordered to pay a substantial $1,759,830 to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Langley faced a 24-month imprisonment term with 3 years of supervision and was required to pay $20,322 in restitution to the IRS.

The duo pleaded guilty on November 7, 2016, to Conspiracy to Defraud the United States With Respect to Claims. Jenkins prepared false W-2 forms reflecting fictional income and withholdings, while Langley referred clients to her for these fraudulent documents. The scheme was completed with Isaac Augustus Blount, III, who filed the returns through his business, Enriched Tax Services in Greenville, NC.

Blount was sentenced on November 9, 2016, to a total of 27 months imprisonment, 3 years supervised release, and ordered to pay $1,645,788.00 to the IRS and $131,915.68 to the North Carolina Fund for Medical Assistance.

Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Holloman III of the IRS-Criminal Investigation emphasized the severity of their actions: “Individuals like Langley and Jenkins who commit refund fraud of this magnitude deserve to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

This case was a collaborative effort between Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Medicaid Criminal Investigations Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Susan Menzer led the government’s legal representation.
