A ruthless Guatemalan trafficker has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for smuggling cocaine into the United States.
Crysthian Omar Escobar Angel, 48, was at the helm of a massive drug cartel that brought in multi-ton quantities of cocaine from Colombia.
Escobar Angel was identified by federal agents in 2015 and indicted in 2019 for his role in the operation. He was extradited from Guatemala in January 2024 and pleaded guilty to federal charges in June 2025.
During the investigation, agents discovered that Escobar Angel was involved in threats of violence, including a chilling text message that read: ‘Let me talk with someone I am just going to need some specifics for tomorrow and we will throw some poison on him….’
