Sioux City’s Alesha Rasmussen has been handed a tough federal prison term for the distribution of methamphetamine, marking her second brushes with the law involving the dangerous drug. The 34-year-old woman was sentenced on July 18, 2025, to over five years behind bars following a guilty plea to distributing the substance.
Rasmussen’s criminal history includes a previous felony conviction for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, secured by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa in November 2011. After her release from prison, she faced multiple supervised release violations, leading to revocation on four occasions.
During sentencing, Rasmussen confessed to selling approximately one ounce of meth to an individual working with law enforcement in Webster County, Iowa, on July 10, 2024. The judge overseeing the case was United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand, who sentenced her to 63 months’ imprisonment.
After serving her prison term, Rasmussen must also serve a six-year term of supervised release. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system, and she remains in custody of the United States Marshals until transportation to a federal prison can be arranged.
The case against Rasmussen was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood, with the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement leading the investigation. Court records for this matter are available online through the Electronic Case Files system, under case number 24-CR-03042.
