Tania Argueta, Narcotics Trafficking, California 2010

⏱ 2 min read

A massive transnational criminal organization (TCO) has been busted for transporting narcotics from Mexico into California and distributing them across the United States, including Oregon. The TCO, which included eight individuals, used shipping carriers and vehicles to move large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, sometimes hiding the drugs in children’s toys or cereal boxes. The group operated stash houses in California and Oregon, with members traveling across the US to pick up drug proceeds.

The eight individuals charged in the case are Tania Argueta, Patsy Escobar, Angel Lopez, Rene Cazares, Julia Dorfler, Matthew Medieros, Patrick Newport, and Felicia Waite. According to court documents, Argueta was a drug and money courier, while Cazares operated a stash house in Salem, Oregon. Escobar and Lopez operated a stash house in Corona, California, distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl across the US.

Law enforcement has seized approximately 56 pounds of fentanyl, 116 pounds of methamphetamine, more than $300,000, and 20 firearms from members of the TCO. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Oregon State Police, and the Springfield Police Department.

The bust is a significant blow to the Mexican drug cartel’s operations in the US. The TCO’s use of creative hiding methods and extensive network of stash houses and couriers made it a formidable opponent for law enforcement. However, the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and cash, as well as the arrest of key players, will likely disrupt the cartel’s ability to operate in the region.
