A Kissimmee con artist is headed to the slammer after claiming a $3.4 million tax refund based on fake fuel credits. Gilmar Pereira Da Silva, Jr. filed false tax returns for 2019, 2020, and 2021, raking in refunds totaling $106,059. But the IRS wasn’t fooled – and now he’s facing 37 months in prison and $103,646 in restitution.
The 2021 return claimed a staggering $3.4 million refund, based on fabricated fuel credits. Those claims were so outlandish that the IRS didn’t even process them.
Pereira Da Silva pleaded guilty on February 9, 2026, and has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Katherine K. Mizelle. The case was investigated by the IRS and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay G. Trezevant.
