Aaron Anthony Wodzinski, a 23-year-old Sioux Falls man, has been charged with heroin trafficking resulting in death and serious bodily injury. The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury on March 9, 2020.
Wodzinski appeared before the Honorable Veronica L. Duffy on March 12, 2020, and entered a plea of not guilty to the indictment. He is being held in custody pending trial.
According to the indictment, Wodzinski conspired with others to distribute heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, in the District of South Dakota and elsewhere. The conspiracy began on an unknown date and continued until May 2019.
On April 23, 2018, Wodzinski allegedly distributed heroin that resulted in the death of Victim #1. On May 6, 2019, he distributed heroin that resulted in the serious bodily injury of Victim #2.
The maximum penalty for conviction is up to life in prison and/or a $1 million fine. Wodzinski may also be ordered to pay restitution to the victims.
The investigation is being conducted by the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer D. Mammenga is prosecuting the case.
Wodzinski’s trial date has not been set. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
