Rapid City Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Meth Conspiracy

Bryaunah Stewart, a 28-year-old Rapid City woman, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for her role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the area of Rapid City.

According to court documents, Stewart distributed methamphetamine from approximately November 2017 to June 2018. The methamphetamine was brought to South Dakota from Colorado by Cathy Wells, who was sentenced in July 2019 to 20 years in prison for her role in the conspiracy.

U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on March 30, 2020. In addition to the 10-year prison sentence, Stewart was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and serve 5 years of supervised release following her release from prison.

The case was investigated by the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET), which is comprised of law enforcement from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the Rapid City Police Department, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the South Dakota National Guard. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case.

Stewart was immediately returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following the sentencing.

While the investigation and sentencing of Stewart bring an end to this case, the impact of methamphetamine distribution in the Rapid City area is still being felt. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
