Aaron Edwin Remaley, Marijuana Distribution, Florida 2014
A Tampa, Florida grand jury has brought down a pair of men accused of peddling hundreds of pounds of marijuana in Sarasota, Hillsborough, and Polk Counties.
According to federal prosecutors, Aaron Edwin Remaley, 39, of Riverview, and Michael Allen Babiarz, 42, of Sarasota, allegedly conspired with each other and others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana from August 2012 through April 2014.
Remaley and Babiarz face a maximum penalty of 40 years in federal prison if convicted. An indictment is simply a formal charge and does not imply guilt.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Scruggs is prosecuting the case.
The indictment alleges that Remaley and Babiarz were the masterminds behind a large-scale marijuana trafficking operation that flooded Sarasota, Hillsborough, and Polk Counties with hundreds of pounds of the illicit substance.
Although the indictment does not specify the exact amount of marijuana distributed, authorities say it was a significant quantity. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged scheme.
Remaley and Babiarz are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The outcome of the case remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the alleged marijuana trafficking operation has been dismantled, and justice is being sought for the people of Florida.
