Phoenix, Ariz. – In a stunning turn of events, Albanian national Anxhela Spahi, 43, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for willfully refusing to depart the United States within 90 days of receiving her final removal order.
The gravity of this offense is not lost on law enforcement as it carries a maximum penalty of a $250,000 fine, up to four years in prison, and supervised release that could last up to one year. Spahi’s defiance marks a significant case in Operation Take Back America, the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative aimed at stemming illegal immigration and eliminating transnational criminal organizations.
Launched by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), this operation has its sights set on total eradication of cartels and TCOs, safeguarding communities from violent crime. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division spearheaded the investigation that led to Spahi’s indictment.
U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, is now handling the prosecution of this case. As with all criminal charges, Anxhela Spahi is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
