ALBANY, NEW YORK – The gritty federal crime news site Grimy Times reports that Maya McIntosh, a 33-year-old resident of Albany, has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for her role in a conspiracy to manufacture and distribute synthetic cannabinoid.
The sentencing, which occurred on July 31, 2025, was announced by Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III, Inspector Ketty Larco-Ward of the USPIS Boston Division, Special Agent Erin Keegan of HSI Buffalo Field Office, and Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie of the New York City Department of Correction.
According to court documents, McIntosh, starting in January 2023 and continuing through July 2024, manufactured MDMB-4en-PINACA, a synthetic cannabinoid. She then used social media to sell sheets soaked with the substance, directing her customers to mail the items to inmates at various correctional facilities in New York State under false pretenses.
McIntosh’s scheme involved ordering chemicals and shipping them to herself and a coconspirator, who combined them to create the synthetic drug. She then used U.S. Priority Mail Express envelopes, disguised as legal mail with the names of actual attorneys, to distribute the contraband. This illegal activity endangered corrections officers and prison staff.
Acting United States Attorney Sarcone emphasized the collaboration between multiple law enforcement agencies in achieving this outcome, expressing gratitude for their efforts in keeping contraband out of correctional facilities. Inspector Larco-Ward highlighted the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s dedication to preserving mail integrity and investigating illegal use of the postal system.
Special Agent Keegan noted that McIntosh’s sentencing should serve as a warning against introducing contraband into correctional facilities, commending the teamwork between HSI Albany personnel and their partners in this investigation.
