OCALA, FL – A Lake County man has admitted to a horrifying crime, pleading guilty to the production of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). John Don Bannister, Jr., 31, of Clermont, Florida, now faces a substantial prison sentence for his depravity.
United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the guilty plea today, detailing that Bannister faces a minimum of 15 years, and up to 30 years, in federal prison per count. He is currently detained awaiting sentencing, with a court date yet to be determined. The details of the case paint a disturbing picture of exploitation and manipulation.
According to the plea agreement, Bannister produced the CSAM with a 14-year-old child on April 26 and May 4, 2023, within Lake County. The investigation revealed a pattern of predatory behavior. The sick exchange? Bannister allegedly provided these items in return for nude images and videos of the children. Law enforcement sources confirm this wasn’t a one-time occurrence, but a calculated attempt to satisfy his perverse desires. The investigation uncovered a disturbing network of exploitation, raising concerns about other potential victims.
Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Mascotte Police Department collaborated on this investigation, bringing Bannister to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg is prosecuting the case, ensuring Bannister is held accountable for his actions.
