Fresno Woman Sentenced to 16 Years for Methamphetamine Distribution

In a significant blow to local drug trafficking, 50-year-old Alma Sanchez of Alpaugh has been sentenced to 16 years and three months in prison for distributing methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Sanchez distributed a significant quantity of the illicit substance on two separate occasions to a co-conspirator, who immediately sold the methamphetamine. The first instance occurred on June 16, 2021, when Sanchez distributed a pound and a half of methamphetamine. The second instance took place on January 31, 2022, when she distributed another 2 pounds of methamphetamine.

This case is a result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Coalinga Police Department, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, the Tulare County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Unit (HIDTA), and the Fresno Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio J. Pataca prosecuted the case, bringing together the efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies to dismantle the drug trafficking operation. The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level criminal organizations threatening the United States.

The OCDETF Program utilizes a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to combat organized crime. Additional information about the OCDETF Program can be found at www.justice.gov/OCDETF.

This case is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve. The U.S. Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN in May 2021, based on core principles of fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Sanchez’s sentence serves as a warning to those involved in drug trafficking, highlighting the severe consequences of engaging in such activities. The efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors like Assistant U.S. Attorney Pataca demonstrate a commitment to making communities safer and reducing the presence of illicit substances.
