NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – 45-Year-Old El Salvador National Charged with Illegal Re-Entry
Alonso Bonilla, a 45-year-old citizen of El Salvador, was charged today in a one-count indictment for illegal re-entry of a removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
According to the indictment, Bonilla reentered the United States after he was previously removed on April 12, 2018.
U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter.
Assistant U. S. Attorneys Rachal Cassagne and Spiro Latsis are in charge of the prosecution.
If convicted, Bonilla faces up to a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, up to $250,000 in fines, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
Bonilla is currently facing the charges in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Rachal Cassagne and Spiro Latsis.
