Threats Made Over Cellphone Land Arizona Man Behind Bars

In a disturbing display of intimidation, Andrew Isaac Abrams, 42, of Tucson, Arizona, made a series of threatening calls to multiple Omaha-based locations on April 23, 2021. Abrams, using a phone number originating in Tucson, Arizona, contacted Union Pacific Railroad Security, Douglas County Civic Center and Courthouse, Eppley Airfield, and Central High School, leaving a chilling voicemail.

The calls, which were made from Abrams’s cellphone located in Tucson, Arizona, claimed that explosive devices had been planted at the locations, leaving authorities scrambling to respond. The Union Pacific Railroad Security building was evacuated, and employees were sent home for the day as a precaution.

Abrams was arrested on May 14, 2021, after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on his apartment in Tucson. Investigators reviewed the call records for Abrams’s cellphone and verified that the calls made on April 23, 2021, to the four affected locations were made from his cellphone.

On [May 14, 2021], Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Abrams to 18 months’ imprisonment for transmitting a threat to injure the person of another through an interstate communication. There is no parole in the federal system. After his release from prison, Abrams will begin a three-year term of supervised release.

Abrams’s actions were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Omaha Police Department, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
