CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A local man is facing serious charges after allegedly distributing methamphetamine and possessing a firearm.
Anthony Eugene McDonald, 45, of Elkins, West Virginia, was indicted on one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine’ and one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.’
The indictment alleges that McDonald distributed methamphetamine in December 2020 in Marion County.
McDonald is also accused of possessing a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol in December 2020 in Marion County. This, despite being a person prohibited from having firearms due to prior convictions.
McDonald faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000 for the drug charge, as well as up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the firearms charge.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with assistance from the ATF and the West Virginia State Police.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
