Eagle Butte Man Charged with Prohibited Firearm

Pierre, South Dakota – A federal grand jury has indicted Anthony Lawrence Collins, Sr., 39, of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, for Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

According to court documents, Collins appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on October 13, 2022 and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The indictment alleges that Collins unlawfully possessed a firearm on March 12, 2021 and on July 23, 2022 in Dewey County, South Dakota. These incidents have led to charges of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

If convicted, Collins could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and/or a fine of $250,000. He may also be required to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Collins has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending further hearing. The investigation is being conducted by Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Thunem prosecuting the case.

The charges against Collins are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
